For the first time ever, Singapore witnessed its very own groundbreaking heritage initiative - an art inspired collaboration between a Singapore fashion label and three Singapore artists.
Along with invite-only guests, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Acting Minister of Information, Communications and the Arts celebrated the official launch of ‘ETERNITY by Fuchsia Lane – Celebrating Art in Fashion and Weddings’ as the event’s distinguished guest-of-honour.
The exhibition showcases a series of eight art inspired gowns by local designer Vivienne Lin in collaboration with three local artists, Justin Lee, Susan Ong and Adeline Yeo.
Adapted from the artworks based on each of the artists’ rendition of ‘Eternity’, Vivienne worked with a team of skilled Peranakan embroiders and beading veterans to incorporate the artwork into eight luxurious gowns in this exclusive wearable art series.
Vivienne said, "9,000 man hours, 8,000 Swarovski crystals, 16 corporate partners, three creative artists and one local design label" went into the making of the gowns.
For the opening night only, Vivienne and On Cheong Jewellery developed a limited, single edition jewellery piece titled ETERNITY – A Timeless Bond, highlighting On Cheong’s collection showcase specially installed for the exhibition.
All eight gowns were presented in a silent auction where 30% of the auction proceeds was donated to the Business Times Budding Artists Fund where children between the ages of five and 12 with a strong interest and artistic potential are given opportunities to be fully engage in the arts.
On Cheong Jewellery also participated in the silent auction and donated a set of 2.20 carats diamond earrings consisting of 2 pear-shaped diamonds of 0.80 carats and 132 round diamonds of 1.40 carats valued at $8,550.
100% of the auction proceeds was dedicated to the beneficiaries helmed by the President’s Challenge.
‘ETERNITY by Fuchsia Lane – Celebrating Art in Fashion and Weddings’ is a three-week long exhibition held till Feb 16 at ION Art Gallery, Level Four, ION Orchard.
