The Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 raised $42,000 for the Food from the Heart at their Annual Christmas Gala Dinner 2009.

Food from the Heart supports over 11,000 beneficiaries each month inclusive of needy families and welfare organisations with food.

Held at the Shangri-La Hotel, more than 400 people attended the gala themed "The Fairy Ball".

Floral couturier Harijanto Setiawan conjured up tales of good versus evil where poisoned flowers transformed into spectacular blooms of beauty at the dinner-cum-floral show extravaganza.

The guest-of-honour was Mrs Yu-Foon Yee Shoon, Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports.

Other distinguished guests included the Minister of Japan Embassy and his wife - Mr Hiroyuki and Mrs Kanami Yamamoto, the Ambassador of Italy and his wife - His Excellency Mr Folco and Mrs Luisa de Luca Gabrielli and the Honorary Member of Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 and President of Singapore Sogetsu Association - Mrs Kazue Kato Kim.

The Emmanuel Choir from The Church of St Bernadette entertained guests with Christmas Carols.

The ballroom was transformed into an enchanting forest with floral costumes showcased in a fashion show.

Guests were also treated to Perrier Jouet champagne that they could purchase and consume to raise additional funds during the dinner.
