Two luxury hotels in Singapore - Fairmont Singapore and Swissôtel The Stamford - showed their philantropic side to this Lunar New Year by reaching out to some low income senior citizens.
Fairmont Singapore and Swissôtel The Stamford’s Service Plus Committee - a team comprising colleagues from both hotels which organises meaningful activities for fellow staffers - spearheaded a Festive Visit on Saturday Feb 6 where they distributed Hong Baos (Red Packets), each worth $8, to 178 abandoned and lonely elderly folk.
A total of $4,200 was collected during an in-house charity donation drive which contributed to purchasing Care Packages of household essentials including toothbrushes and toothpaste, bath towels, biscuits and packets of 3-in-1 Milo for each household.
The hotels’ team of accomplished chefs cooked up 250 portions of steamed white rice paired with stir fried broccoli, cauliflower and carrot in vegetarian oyster sauce, as well as wok-fried chicken with onion and capsicum sautéed in sweet and sour sauce - adding a delicious flavour to this early Lunar New Year treat.
In total, 31 colleagues from Fairmont Singapore and Swissôtel The Stamford volunteered for this Festive Visit initiative, led by members of the Service Plus Committee.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Mr Ian Wilson, General Manager of Fairmont Singapore and Regional Vice-President Asia, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts said, “Paying respect to elders is a value close to the hearts of Chinese families during the Lunar New Year.
“This Festive Visit provides an ideal opportunity for our colleagues of different races and religions to do their part for charity whilst fostering a deeper understanding of local cultural traditions.”
Mr Aiden McAuley, General Manager, Swissôtel The Stamford, Singapore and Regional Vice President, Asia Pacific, Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts added, “By extending our kindness and festive spirit to the under-privileged, our colleagues are able to touch individual lives as well as contribute towards a more gracious society – both of which are core values in promoting our culture of great hospitality.”
