Invite-only opening for Fringe Festival
by Plush|13 March 2010

The M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2010 opened its sixth edition at ION Art with an art show.

Organised and curated by The Necessary Stage, this festival is a showcase of artists from all over the world, across various artistic genres.

The festival this year explores the relationship between Art and the Law.

And what better way to explore that than with Phillip Toledano's "America The Gift Shop".

"America The Gift Shop" is an installation project that reflects the foreign policy of the Bush/Cheney regime in the fun-house mirror of American commerce.

Toledano's palette is the vernacular of retail tourism.

His pieces are shocking and yet funny. It reflects the grim truth of what the American nation was.

Invited guests were treated to a guided tour of Toledano's work and enjoyed cocktails and each other's company for the opening.
