The 2009 Ikebana International Singapore Christmas Gala Dinner held recently successfully raised $42,000 for Food from the Heart.

The charity supports over 11,000 beneficiaries each month inclusive of needy families and welfare organizations.

Over 400 people attended the annual dinner with some guests dressing according to this year's theme, "The Fairy Ball."

President of Ikebana International Chapter 135, Mrs Grace Lau, said the theme was specially chosen to represent all things good such as inspiration, harmony, love and friendship - keeping in line with the aim of the night.

Funds were raised through the purchase of admission tickets. Guests were also able to raise additional funds during the dinner itself by purchasing bottles of Champagne Perrier Jouet placed on every table, elegantly put together by the Ikebana members.

The guests were also kept entertained by The Emmanuel Choir from The Church of St Bernadette and a fashion show which showcased floral costumes, hair pieces and hand bouquets - all made out of exotic materials.

The charity ball is an annual event which was held at the Shangri-La Hotel earlier this month.
