IndoChine Group spreads Green message for its 10th anniversary
by Plush|09 February 2010

IndoChine Group is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year with an IndoChine Green Festival, in association with the APEC CEO Summit, which unites the world in support of the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) mission in Copenhagen’s United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNCCC) this December.

IUCN’s mission at the UNCCC is ecosystem based adaptation and an environmentally sound framework for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD).

Asia's first IndoChine Green Festival

Launching Asia’s first Green Festival, the week long event aims to inform corporations and individuals on how to create a sustainable future using the universal language of music and the arts.

Running from Nov 10-15, the festival’s highlights will include “NATURE IS CHANGING  - Copenhagen and beyond  - what does it mean for Asia?” a Green Talk held on Nov 11 with a panel discussion by IUCN representatives on how to grow a ‘green’ business, jointly organised with Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) and Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy.

The “Tropical Fiesta Gala Night” will be held on Nov 12 - a night of revelry, international entertainment and environmental education celebrating IndoChine’s 10 years of growth in Asia. IndoChine’s international friends and APEC CEO summit delegates will be amongst the esteemed guests.

On Nov 13, APEC CEO delegates of multi-national corporations such as Procter & Gamble, Microsoft, DHL and Siemens will meet for a closed door discussion on various pressing issues for the UNCCC in Copenhagen.

That same evening, “Countdown to Copenhagen Concert” held at IndoChine Empress Place will see both international and local artistes coming together to raise awareness on environmental concerns.

About the International Union for Conservation of Nature

IUCN is the oldest and largest environmental network and the only one with a seat in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

It seeks to find balance between needs of people and that of the environment.

Without political affiliation, IUCN helps to find pragmatic solutions to resolve pressing environmental issues and challenges.

Working with various scientists to support their environmental research work, IUCN provides governments, UN agencies, companies and local communities with knowledge and assistance in implementing environmental sustainable policies, laws and best practices.

IUCN is also the organisation that provides the annual RED LIST of endangered species.

Special Advisor to IUCN, Camilla Hall says, “A large factor of environmental damages is a lack of information by corporations. Business have only recently begun to see that environmentally detrimental actions affect them in return, causing a lack of resources, downturn in activities due to environmental disasters and widespread diseases. IUCN has demonstrated that they have the information to help business leaders in the world if only they choose to consider the environment. In fact, IUCN estimates about US$1.3billion worth of business opportunities in the Green field.”

Since its inception, IndoChine Group has been actively involved in various charity and environment projects such as Red Cross, WWF and Halogen Foundation.

The company also has a strong corporate policy of conservation through recycling, a carefully planned menu which does not serve endangered species and a heat exchange system to conserve energy use.

CEO of IndoChine Group, Michael Ma says, “IndoChine Group has always been actively involved with saving the environment. We have been supporting Development Alternatives Group headed by Dr. Ashok Khosla (President of IUCN) for years.  It is a natural progression to show IUCN support for their mission to Copenhagen and what better way to raise awareness than through the platform of IndoChine Green Festival and our 10th Anniversary Celebrations.”
