Parties, parties, parties: Plush's luxury week of gala events
by Simi Antoinette, Plush|04 September 2010

This year's F1 season was certainly all about charity galas.

Your Plush mistress attended quite a number and, really, are we in a recession?

Plenty of elites were very generous with their biddings. Lots of F1 and sports memorabilia made their ways into new homes with lots of charities benefitting from the proceeds.

One event that took place during the lead up to the F1 was Living in Style - International 2009.

It was a week long slew of events involving catwalk shows to charity galas.

It took place in Keppel Bay where an area was transformed into a platform for the display of luxurious cars, watches and fashion paraphernalia.

The first one in the series your Plush mistress attended showcased Rohit Bal's couture ollection, Silvian Imberg's designs and had a classical performance by the very talented T'ang Quartet.

They played gorgeous music on Stradivarius violins worth $4 million.

Called the I-India Philantrophy Gala where proceeds from the auction went to street children in Jaipur, India, the gala saw plenty from the Indian elite expat community attending.

Indian designer Rohit Bal's collection certainly did not sting in fabric and your Plush mistress thinks it was interesting but not entirely to her taste.

She was rather looking forward to some Indian designs but what came down the catwalk was perhaps a little more European. Nevertheless, guests were impressed.

Israeli luxury swimwear designer, Silvian Imberg, had an amazing collection that could double up as evening wear!

Swimsuits, bikinis and kaftans charged down the runway in splashes of colour and finesse.

Your Plush mistress had just returned from a beach holiday before the F1 and was feeling a need to go for another, in Silvian's designs. A treat for the eyes!

Other Living in Style events that your Plush mistress' circle attended were the Quest for Sustainability Gala that showed organic fabrics by Ogaan down the catwalk.

Ogaan consists of five designers - Alecca Carrano, Kotwara, Gaurav Gupta, Kavita Bhartia and Rajesh Pratap Singh. Their clothes are made of natural fabrics filled with colour and concern for the environment.

Just in the second tent outside, Netherlands-based Bibi van der Velden's had a catwalk show of her gorgeous jewellery.

With a background in sculpting, she creates signature wearable pieces.

One aspect of her jewellery that stands out is that some of her collection is made from mammoth tusks, yes, you read right, mammoth - the extinct ancestor of the elephant!

Gliterrateen was a treat for the young ones with a teen catwalk show and a performance by girl group Girlicious.

The round off was the Johnnie Walker Blue Label dinner that seemed rather smashing. It showcased the wonderful designs of Beirut-based designer Khaled Masri. That night was certainly filled with colour.

There was just one blunder a little bird told your Plush mistress about.

A storm in the morning one day during the Living in Style week resulted in the rooftop of the second tent (where some fashion shows were staged) completely blown off with lights and equipment merrily swimming in the sea.

Organisers were, no doubt, in a frenzy and production crews were annoyed and worried.

Your Plush mistress believes that for that particular evening, the show was quite a disaster but all was made up for the following day as that show went smoothly and superbly. So all is forgiven!

A week worth of luxury events certainly made an interesting debut. A good effort despite with a couple of blunders, mishaps, cat fights and delays (little bird, again, mentioned), Living in Style did live up to its name and came through in the end as something rather spectacular to attend and pull off.
