Charlize Theron sued for wearing 'wrong' watch
by PlushAsia|15 October 2008

Leading UK newspaper The Guardian's website has reported that according to advertising news website Brand Republic, Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil is seeking $20 million in damages from Hollywood A-lister Charlize Theron for allegedly breaching an endorsement contract.

The Guardian blogger Oliver Marre blogged that the Oscar-winning actress had signed a 14-month contract with Raymnond Weil in 2005 which committed her to wear the luxury brand's watches during public events especially when paparazzi is present.

However, at a Texan press conference in 2006, Charlize wore a Christian Dior watch. The blog reported that last week, a New York judge said, "By wearing a Christian Dior watch at the film festival, Theron breached her covenant not to 'wear publicly any watches other than Raymond Weil."

Theron calls her decision to wear the Christian Dior watch 'regrettable.'

The court case is currently ongoing.

Ironically, Oliver pointed out that there's a complication here as Chalize is also contracted to advertise Christian Dior - not their watches but other things. He says maybe she was simply confused by the multiple branding she has to carry off.
