by Roshni Lakhiani, Plush|05 February 2012

Known as the first superstar of Bollywood, Rajesh Khanna will be given the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at the 10th IDEA International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, staged at the The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel from June 11-13, 2009.

He first appeared in Indian cinema in the 1966 film 'Aakhri Khat' which shot him to fame and instigated 'Khanna mania' all over India. Teenage girls swooned over him, paving the path of the cult of movie star 'stardom' in Bollywood.

His career in Indian cinema spans four decades and is still running, having appeared in major films through the 21st century.

An actor turned politician as well, he has served as an MP in the Indian parliament from 1991-1996 and has been a recipient of numerous prestigious awards such as the Dada Saheb Phalke Legend Golden Actor Award, bestowed on him in 2008.

IIFA thinks that it is fitting then, to present him with the Lifetime award in conjunction with their 10th anniversary, as an icon of Indian cinema.

Themed 'A Decade of IIFA Magic', the IIFA Weekend promises to be a cine-packed celebration of Indian cinema including fun-filled parties, film premieres, film festivals, workshops, global business forums and celebrity functions attended by the industry's most prominent stars.

More than 500 luminaries from the Indian film industry will attend with some of the world’s best-known international celebrities.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, often acclaimed as one of the most beautiful women and ex-Miss World, known for her graceful dancing, will perform at the awards.

Actress Sonam Kapoor, daughter of acclaimed actor Anil Kapoor, is also set to perform in what will be her maiden live performance. In addition, other entertaining acts includes the Zaia show by world renowned Cirque Du Soleil, the very first permanent show ever staged in Asia and the IIFA Fashion Extravaganza.

IDEA IIFA Awards 2009 promises to be a spectacular show that hopes to reflect the magnitude of a decade of IIFA Magic.
