The Shanghai Tang Women's International Polo Tournament returns to the Singapore Polo Club for the second consecutive year from Oct 8 to 12, 2008. The final will be held on Sunday, Oct 12, featuring top female polo players from Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and the US.
For the fifth year running, the Singapore Polo Club is organising the women's international polo tournament and partnering Shanghai Tang who is returning as title sponsor for the second consecutive year. For the first time as co-sponsor, Banque de Dépôts et de Gestion (BDG Bank) has joined the tournament in show of their avid support.
Gracing the event is Peter Philips, son of Princess Anne and the Queen's eldest grandchild and his wife. He is 11th in line to the throne. However, he does not hold a Royal title or carry out official Royal engagements. Peter recently married his Canadian-born wife, Autumn Kelly, and the couple have since relocated to Hong Kong where Peter heads the RBS Bank in Group Sponsorship for Asia Pacific.
Peter and his wife will be arriving to Singapore on Thursday and will attend the event as special guests for all three days. Peter Philips will be present at the tournament final on Sunday to perform the traditional throw-in ceremony that announces the start of the polo match as well as preside over the prize presentation ceremony.
As an annual highlight on Singapore's sporting and social calendar, the premier women's polo event in Southeast Asia bears the undeniable mark of prestige. The Singapore Polo Club says it is pleased to have great marketing support from the Singapore Tourism Board this year. And that many of the female polo professionals returning to play in the tournament for the second, if not third time, is an indicator of the tournament's success.
"I look forward to a great week of polo and great line-up of players and teams."
