Lotus turns 60 with blinged-up Europa
by Luxury-Insider.com|17 September 2008

Lotus marked its 60th birthday celebration on Sunday, Sep 14, by showcasing a fully customised diamond-set version of the Lotus Europa at its Hethel headquarters in Norfolk, England.

164 round brilliant-cut diamonds worth some £111,000 ($285,000) from East Anglia's family-owned jewelers, Winsor Bishop, adorned the matt black gear knob and controls as well as the rev counter and speed dials.

The shimmering look continues on the exterior paint finish, which features a high gloss black base with embedded glass flakes.

Gems aside, this Europa is no white (or to be factually correct, black) elephant. It boasts a sub-five second 0-60 mph sprint, and achieves a top speed of 146 mph (or about 235 km/h). This bejewelled speedster carries a tag of £150,000 (or $385,000).
