Sports-inspired watches are all the rage nowadays especially with the Singapore Grand Prix just a few weeks away.
High-end Italian fashion brand Bulgari has jumped on the F1 bandwagon by choosing to highlight its Diagono line of sports watches in its second annual watch exhibition this September.
Diagono was first launched in 1988, drawing its inspiration from the ancient Greek word "agon", meaning competition. Since then, it has built for itself a strong reputation by offering practical yet stylish timepieces suited for a fast-paced lifestyle.
Now in its twentieth year, Diagono has undergone a design revamp - further developing on its aesthetic vision of applying elegance to contemporary sports watches.
The timepieces in the line now feature more complicated engineering features such as integrated chronographs with a column wheel and displays of moon phases.
The new bezel on each of the timepieces is now flat with an external cut angled at 45 degrees. Each Diagono also features a double Bulgari logo, one embossed into the bezel and another within the watch face. The watches also boast multi-level dials with sophisticated embossing and luminescent skeleton-like hands.
The matte finish bracelet that completes the timepiece comprises 106 components and required 90 manual operations to engineer. The casing of each watch is deliberately oversized and fashioned in an elegant mix of gold, steel and rubber.
Two of the main highlights of the exhibition are the technically complicated Diagono Tourbillon and the Diagono Moon Phase, both making their debut in Singapore.
Bulgari confidently states these watches "represent the highest expression of Swiss watchmaking, not only for the high quality workmanship but also for the exclusive nature of their functions."

Diagono Tourbillon - BVL 200 caliber
This exquisite timepiece is a handmade Bulgari movement featuring a tourbillon mechanism whose cage consists of 52 components. The company's first fully in-house manufactured watch also showcases an exclusive "black gold" finishing on the movement, which required 9 extra operations.
You would definitely be hard-pressed to find a similar watch with this level of precision and elegance elsewhere, as each piece in this limited editon is painstakingly handmade by the same Bulgari Master Watchmaker.
Diagono Moon Phase - BVL 347 caliber

An exclusive display of moon phases and a retrograde date and day display at 150 degrees makes for a charming and refined
timepiece. Comprising 347 components finished and assembled by hand, the Diagono Moon Phase features an oscillating disc of the lunar phases.
The disc's hand indicates the eight phases of the moon, while the arrow in the window indicates whether the moon is waxing or waning.
Fans of the movie 'Ironman' should perk up as this visually-striking timepiece displays a skeleton of the oscillating mass - a timepiece feature that was highlighted in the Hollywood blockbuster.
This swanky addition to the already-impeccable timepiece was realised with six different components and eight types of finish - all entirely executed by hand.
Other highlights of the exhibition include the Diagono Professional watches and new ladies' watches that range from everyday wear to the delicately bejewelled.
The Bulgari Watch Exhibition will be on from Sep 18 to 28 at the Paragon. The 12-day bonanza will feature approximately a hundred watches, promising to be quite a sweet treat for the discerning eye.
