Titanic-DNA Pen
by Sharan Kaur, PlushAsia|08 September 2008

A quirky but extraordinary addition to the Titanic-DNA collection is the Titanic-DNA fountain pen.

Like the other timepieces in this collection, the pen's design was inspired by the Titanic, and thus bears on its barrel a band of rusted steel taken from the ruins of the Titanic.

Drawing more inspiration from the great ship, the pen also features:

  • A propeller resembling the secondary propeller of the Titanic
  • An ink reservoir fitted with a piston discernable through a porthole
  • A miniature replica of the ship's wheelhouse mechanism
  • Steel and/or diamond rivets

And to add a touch of opulence, the nib of the fountain pen is made out of 18-carat-gold, and bears a carved image of the Titanic. The pen also comes with an inkpot filled with squid ink, carrying with it the scent of the ocean.

The pen also bears a unique mechanism. The wheelhouse steering gear at the base of the pen is engaged by a toothed wheel, which in turn rotates the propeller. The rotating propeller thus moves the piston upwards, allowing the ink to be drawn into the pen nib.

Made exclusively for Romain Jerome by Benjamin and Jean-Pierre Lepine, the Titanic-DNA fountain pen is available in six styles and combines a variety of materials including gold and palladium. Each style is limited to 88 pieces.
